Congo’s Minister of Environment’s Statements on Water Scarcity

On the problem of water scarcity, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development of the Republic of the Congo (Yves Baziba) stated that it is preferable for water resources to be subject to a number of foundations to allow facing challenges and difficulties in the coming period, and to distribute shares through a participatory approach.

Baziba pointed out that it is necessary to develop an integrated strategy to solve the water scarcity crisis and to develop a plan that includes economic development and includes all parties, stressing that water is a right for all and water is life and therefore must be shared, and this came through her speech at the opening of the Cairo Water Week under the auspices of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

Through her statements, Baziba added that the Congo cooperates with the rest of the neighboring countries to manage the water resources in its surroundings, and we contribute approximately 65% of the water in the Congo Basin, and there is no doubt that water represents the basic basis for human presence on Earth and for life in various fields and is indispensable either in agriculture, irrigation or electricity generation, as well as in diversity and ecological balance .water constitutes an essential element for the necessary human activities.
