According to an ENGAGED report, Co-CEO Reed Hastings revealed that the show is currently being worked on and that he will finalize the details of those plans “within the next year or two.”

Hastings stated that he dislikes advertisements and prefers the simplicity of subscriptions, but offering consumers who don’t mind seeing ads the option of paying less makes a lot of sense.

And it could make a lot of sense for the company as well, as the service lost about 200,000 subscribers in the first quarter of 2022. The company blamed this loss on intense competition and an inability to expand in some areas due to technological limitations and account sharing.

Netflix began testing a feature in March that enabled users in Chile, Costa Rica, and Peru to add two “sub-members” for $3 each, each with their own logins and profiles.

Even though it’s only a tenth of the price of a full subscription, Netflix still makes money from customers who frequently borrow their friends’ accounts.
