The Japanese boat disappeared while in the waters of Kashuni Falls, which is located near the tip of the peninsula and is known for its beautiful scenery.
According to local Japanese media today, the Coast Guard found 9 of the 26 passengers on board of a rescue boat.
The media reported that the nine people were found in the waters around the Shiretoko Peninsula in Hokkaido, and they were unconscious and immediately taken to hospital.
On Saturday, after being trapped in high waves, the crew of the boat “Kazuo 1” issued a distress call to the Coast Guard, stating that the water was entering the boat.
After losing contact with the boat a few hours later, the Coast Guard initiated a search operation that included a helicopter and numerous boats.
On board of the missing tour boat in Japan were 22 adult passengers and two children, in addition to the two-person crew.
It is noteworthy that the area of the accident is known for its floating ice and is home to many rare plants and animals and was declared a world natural heritage in 2005.
