Webb Telescope depicts Cartwheel Galaxy in stunning hues
The US space agency “NASA” has revealed fantastical images of a group of galaxies, including a large ring-shaped galaxy, known as the ” Cartwheel Galaxy”.
New image from James Webb Telescope reveals the Cartwheel Galaxy
According to NASA’s website, where the image captured by the James Webb Space Telescope was released, the Cartwheel galaxy got its unique structure from an extraordinary collision between two galaxies.
Where the collision of the two galaxies resulted in two rings expanding from the center of the galaxy “like ripples caused by throwing a stone in a pond.” The smaller white ring remained closer to the center of the galaxy, while the outer ring with its colorful edges began expanding in the universe 440 million years ago.
The image revealed details about the formation of stars in the galaxy, which is 500 million light years away from Earth, in addition to revealing the behavior of the supermassive black hole at its center with amazing accuracy.
The image enabled the researchers to discover areas rich in hydrocarbons and other chemicals, in addition to dust similar to those found on Earth. They also discovered that the expansion of the outer ring causes it to flow into gas, which leads to the formation of new stars.
